forced to say he has no choice even if

helicopters also of russian origin
operated by india the me 26 heavy lift
helicopters the biggest helicopters in
the world also in indian service are
from russia the brahmos cruise missile
is an indo-russian joint venture much of
the technology is from russia

r-27 to the r-73
virtually all air-to-air missiles
currently used by indian air force

able to evade air defense slips past
enemy lines because i like i said
they're very very small little drones
they can be carried in backpacks they
seek out targets they have autonomous
computers they can be pre-programmed
with coordinates hunt kill dive out of
the sky and hit they can hover over a
target and basically wait and lurk
around lighter around for an opportune
moment and then they hit that target
exploding in what is called a suicide
strike they can be also used in swarm
mode hundreds of these drones can be
deployed at the same time in order to
somehow overwhelm uh you know military
or vehicular columns of the kind that
russia has been sending these drones
have a top speed of about 130 kilometers
per hour with a payload of about three
kilograms so a sizable little warhead
with uh you know with sensors on board
as well they have a flight duration of
about 30 minutes that's very very
healthy can cover many kilometers in
that time to actually hit a target so
those are the kinds of drones that
ukraine is currently getting in order to
strike russian targets now how do you
fight a superpower which is out to
annihilate you you do what ukraine is
doing with killer precision using
whatever it possibly can to take out
these approaching russian convoys enter
the super lethal super silent
birachtar drones these are turkish
drones that were supplied to ukraine
back in 2019 and along with the switch
switchblade drones that are being sent
to ukraine now by the united states
ukraine has been using the biracter
drones supplied by turkey to devastating
effect or at least that's what ukraine

street russia has been mounting drone

the tb2 has a flight time of 24 hours
and a communication range of almost 185
miles with a service altitude ceiling of
roughly 25 000 feet
additionally some of these drones create
a disturbing sound when approaching
their targets which can be
psychologically unsettling
the chief of ukraine's air force
lieutenant general michola oleshchuk
describes the beer actor tb2 drones as
life giving each beer actor tb2 system
consists of six aerial vehicles two
ground control stations
three ground data terminals
two remote video terminals and ground
support equipment bay raktor tb2 uav can
carry a maximum payload of more than 55
kilos the standard payload configuration
includes an electro optical camera
module an infrared camera module
a laser designator
a laser range finder
and a laser pointer
ukraine is the latest instance of these
formidable attack drones in action
bayraktar tb2 drones were heavily
effective for azerbaijan against armenia
in november 2002 as testified by
multiple videos that emerged at that
time
a precursor to this was the success of
the tb2 drones against russian-made
weapons in syria and libya
key aspects like low visibility and
detectability thanks to the low radar
cross-section makes this drone slick and
agile
it is interesting to note that earlier
this year turkey and ukraine had an
agreement in place to co-produce
beiraktar tb2 drones at a production
site in ukraine

co-production compound would also
include a training center where
ukrainian pilots would be trained

india today rajesh coming to you first
since you're in ukraine still one of the
few journalists still reporting from
kiev at this point of time uh you know
the the the news about drones uh rajesh
is interesting
in the recent past in just the last
couple of years we've seen the very very
effective
very uh impactful uh you know aftermath
of the use of drones uh in the russia
ukraine crisis over the last few days
especially there have been a
multiplicity of inputs and videos of
drone strikes you know flowing from both
sides and now we hear that there are new
us drones also coming in for the
ukrainians to use these kamikaze drones
how you know first you know assess for
us the use of drones so far in this
conflict from your view rajesh
look chef drones have been a game
changer if you remember the recent war
which happened the azerbaijan and
armenian war drones were the game
changer the drone supply to azerbaijan
by turkey changed the course of war
completely and armenia had to give up
they had to come to the negotiation
table and had to accept what ajar bhajan
had to offer same thing is happening in
this war drones are being used by both
the sites in a big way yes and now new
uh american drones are being supplied to
ukraine these are like suicide drones
they have a small payload on top they
can carry up to one kilogram of payload
and they just
hover around in the area look at the
targets identify the target and just go
and hit the target and destroy it and
they can be game changers really in this
war and a large number of these
drones have been supplied by america to
ukraine in the last few days and new
supplies are coming in every day as we
talk shiv
uh major major summer how do you see
this you know like rajesh says we've
seen drones of a very similar kind being
used to devastating effect in the
armenia azerbaijan war you know just a
couple of years ago
there is an increasing and visible use
of drones attack drones uh you know
hunter killer drones as well as these
kamikaze drones here some of them are
very very small they can be carried in
backpacks they can be deployed with
hardly any logistical footprint
whatsoever you know frontline special
forces infantry troops can easily deploy
these to devastating effect how do you
see this major though
and
rajesh basically to begin with
i i want to bring out a very surprising
fact that probably the world is not
aware of much as of now
basically the creator of beretta tb2
drone
is
now this individual was born in 7th
october 1979
he's done his graduation from the united
states from massachusetts institute of
technology so this individual's
father-in-law
is today's turkish prime minister
erdogan
so basically he had set up a
drone industry named
baker bayk
industries for setting up of these nano
drones so as a result uh he got a
project approval from the turkish
government through the prime minister of
turkey and there was full expertise and
manpower and the brain put into creating
such a lethal drone which is actually
become the mainstay of any battle you
know azerbaijan and armenia had the
dispute of land since 1988
but within 44 days
you know azerbaijan was able to solve
this issue by use of drones yes armenian
army was getting inputs like within
eight minutes they were getting inputs
or at various locations amounting to
hundreds of casualties of the soldiers
yes so basically in today's uh age of
warfare drone has become a needle in the
sky which is so lethal that once it
strikes there is no tracking it it is
made up of composite material number one
number two they have different types of
drones you know they are micro drones
there are nano drones they are small
tactical drones they are medium range
reconnaissance drones and now the latest
concept which is going to come in the
future is going to be mother drones with
small tactical drones yes that means one
mother drone is able to carry
approximately 10 to 15 drones with it
and those small drones would be at least
armed with two to four bombs each yes so
it is going to be a plethora of
artillery shells but the difference is
they have wings they have a direction
and they have a guidance system yes as
to where it is going to go and hit so
you can run you can hide but you cannot
escape from them
you are in the trenches yeah you are in
the buildings
or you are at any particular
these drones are you know increasingly
intelligent they are able to you know
loiter for extended periods of time
you know since you brought up the
armenia azerbaijan war even there we saw
you know
a numerically and less equipped force
being able to in many ways
give a good fight if not turn the tables
of that conflict with the concerted use
of these drones do you think that's
possibly something that's happening here
or could happen rajesh
not not as much as it influenced the
course of war in azerbaijan and armenia
it won't be that much because both sides
are technologically much more superior
than probably the two sides we're
talking about azerbaijan and armenia
these are ukrainian army and uh
he's much more sophisticated has much
more sophisticated technology than that
but yes there is no doubt that drones
have been game changer in that war and
they are likely to be game changer in
this war as well and that is the reason
after russia has been using its suicide
the drones on a ukraine target yeah
ukrainian authorities pleaded with
america and america is now supplying
these drones which are as brought out
very small drones they carry a payload
up to one hour yeah one kg and they can
stay in our area and hover around in
area for hours
waiting for the target these targets can
be laser eliminated or it can be fed
into the memory of the drones and when
they recognize the target they go and
just dive into it and destroy it and
they
impact they they blast on impact and the
target is destroyed yeah so these are
very very efficient and uh low low cost
uh technology now to destroy tanks or
armored carrier personnel which cost a
lot of money and you see the course of
the way war has been fought we have been
thinking about war it was fought in 20th
century but in 21st century the armored
on which there was so much of reliance
between india pakistan or beach and
other asian countries things have
changed now the reliance on armor is not
so much and
the air power along with drones is the
future which whichever
side will have a stronger technology in
these two fields probably will dominate
the battlefield and that appears to be
the case uh uh um a major summer one
final question to you is you know you've
been an urban warfare specialist you've
operated in hostile and
environments just like rajesh has as a
special forces officer major tour uh you
know how
did you have access to this kind of
technology when you were a soldier and
if not
you know i'm sure looking at all these
weapons now you must be thinking you
know i wish we had such systems they
would have made many many things much
easier
we we have been utilizing the
drones you know basically for
surveillance at reconnaissance yeah and
uh as far as the close combat was
concerned where we used to corner in the
terrorists we use these drones earlier
it used to be uh the choppers or the
helicopters hovering over and they used
to give us guidance and even they had
extreme threat from terrorist fire so as
a result you know latest the last
operation that i had conducted was in
2018 in which i had participated and it
was with the help of drone that we were
able to track three joshua mohamed
hardcore terrorists and we could
actually eliminate them before the last
slide
so basically drones are definitely a
very efficient equipment which are going
to change the face of war and it is
basically now a contactless war right
you're not going to see the enemy but it
is going to strike
now the most amazing part is
any armored brigade or regiment moving
moving in for attack you know its turret
cannot move beyond a particular limit
absolutely in the elevation point of
view so all the drones which are there
for them armored armored columns are
sitting ducks
they're going to be taken out one by one
yeah and there's going to be utter chaos
and confusion so this is definitely
coming out to be
you could say amongst the top attack
weapons or shells yeah from that point
of view you know it is something like
death from above in a very stealthy
manner which is not recognizable by
radar which is not detectable which is
not visible and you have no reaction
time to get away from it it's just you
know these tiny little things i want to
emphasize once again so our viewers get
that straight these are not you know big
room filling drones the switchblades
that the ukrainians are going to be
getting from the united states are small
drones that can fit into military style
backpacks are very much the kind of
backpacks that rajesh and summer would

combat missions as well so this is these
are game changers low investment low
cost low logistics easy to operate easy
to program easy to deploy and

there's tremendous security uh
considering there's been a massive
explosion at a military garage
and a major ammunition before uh of

incident took place so we do not know if
there are casualties uh there is an
apprehension that could have been some
and we do not know the circumstances
just as get uh you know as a standard
operating procedure military is uh
rover there is an inquiry that is
ordered but prima facie they're saying
that this was the result of a short

at loggerheads one set of people loving
the film loving the fact that the plight
of the kashmiri pundits has been brought
out in its gory for the world to see the
other labeling the film as being biased
and part of a larger political agenda to
talk about the kind of reactions the
kashmir file is generating i am
delighted to be joined in the india
today mediaplex by vivek akihotri who's
brought this film together one of the
finest legends of indian cinema anupam
care is with us
and she looks like arundhati roy on the
screen but that's not who she is but

it's a delight to have you and we've got
with me as my co-anchor for this

pandith herself very passionate about
the film we're having a furious debate
earlier in the news meeting and we said

kind of reactions the kashmir files is
generating and this is one film where
we've had the prime minister
interestingly urge people to go out and
watch the film and the opposition says

pushing an agenda which suits the ruling
dispensation how do you react to the
surround sound that we're seeing around
the kashmir files first of all
rahul i'll just tell you
you how our brains are wired
you used in the introduction the diverse
reactions there's no diverse reaction
there is a monochromatic unanimous
consensual uh reaction all over the
world
all over the world anywhere in the world
not india frankfurt kenya norway finland
australia and these places
there they are jam-packed you are not
getting tickets people are crying people
are clapping they're saying bharat mata
so don't use the word diverse there
cannot be diverse views on terrorism
do not make an attempt to create
narrative it's a golden moment in the
history of india where in independent
india such a genocide took place not
even one person called it genocide we
kept calling it exodus what do you think
has led to this reaction because
pandemic after two years theaters open
people are rushing sponsoring tickets
because my timeline and and the people
i've grown up with are only talking
about this film and there is a debate

praised our film and admitted it was a
genocide not one media channel reported

is a muslim or sitting christian or
sardar or hindu like i think they see a
film they emotionally react to the film
they do not want to sort of say that
they are not it's not housing societies
where they don't allow hindus or muslims
or something like that people and that's
the magic of in cinema
on on social media for example let's

the you you see a lot of these people
sharing documents numbers saying 100
died 200 died okay 300 maximum 500 000
died
is it a genocide why through your film
you think it needs to be called a
genocide if the number of you are a
kashmiri let me just ask you that
question directly do you think it's a
genocide it was a genocide so don't
don't be uh okay
who has faced 1990 said this what are
you saying i'll tell you
there's a tough question being asked yes
do you think it was a genocide or exodus
we are so used to calling it at max and
exodus
maybe an ethnic cleansing that even
genocide the same issue i have also
faced and i also believed till now that
because the numbers officially are not
so high look at the numbers
but i think that's a bit of a bogus
debate the fact that it's a genocide
can't be contested the fact that
kashmiri pundits were deliberately
targeted and forced to leave their homes
and the fact that enough hasn't been
done even over the last seven years that
kind of a thing i am only interested in
this interview if you are sticking to
the don't make me or make us speak about
and defend it defend the film after 32
years why should there be anything to
defend in the film you've made it from
the point that you see it because you're
actually and that's the film that you
made questions are making me feel
defensive

kashmiri pundits to have their voice out
i don't doubt that and that's why it's
resonated so deeply with the community
because everyone feels it's they're
absolutely shocked to see blacks

go about it but if the present
government has abrogated article 375 and
35a and if the prime minister has made
this appeal today to the in the
parliament i don't know where he may
said that i think i want to applaud him
for that
do you hope that this sparks
people don't want to go back to the same
place if they're horrified that they
will be killed again
they're waiting but look at the kashmiri
pandit community none of them raised
picked up guns
they
survived all these 30 32 years just
because they believe in education they
believe in arts and culture and things
like that and they believe in belonging
to the country they live in
one of the hallmarks of the kashmiri
hindu community has been the desire for
knowledge and education and
the determination to stay away from
violent acrimony and revenge and focus
on upskilling which is why some of the
finest doctors writers thinkers have
come from the community and the role
that you portray is one of what's
happening in academic institutions we
want to
focus on that for a bit because it's
part of a larger debate in terms of
what's taught in colleges universities
by professors and how this so far
largely has been one left liberal point
of view is this an attempt to try and
shake the status quo further
see this is a film we made on what
happened in the 1990s
with the kashmiri hindu community
now when
you write a screenplay of the film
you cannot just talk about one thing you
have to add
different dimensions to it so my
character is just one of the dimensions
which shows how the kashmiri hindu
community was further betrayed
by
popularizing different narratives which
went against
what they went through
which went against what they stood for
everything that they were you know
trying to say the way
the
men were killed the way the women were
gang raped and cut into pieces the way
little children were hacked to death
this absolutely brutal acts which
happened in kashmir were completely you
know
veiled
by this narrative of azad kashmir
and if they wanted azad kashmir fine i
mean you anybody can get up and ask for
a free country tomorrow they are at
liberty to do so but why do you want to
shed blood for that
and why do you want to kill people who
belong to a different faith
isn't india india a great example of how
we all live together
like
you seem to be leading in bollywood
a project for the revision uh or the
rewriting of history popular imagination
and giving it a different perspective
from what has so far been the accepted
reality we saw that with the tashken
files and now where does this go from
here is this i see from your tone tenor
that a you're very passionate you're
very charged up partly emotional
is this part of an ideological project
in your head in the way that you see it
a cultural project or a political
project how do you see it and where does
this journey go after the kashmir files
wonderful i think this is the best
question i've ever heard in the entire
journey of 10 years
and see the thing is i
i was i went to harvard to study
when rajiv gandhi became the prime
minister i left my green card came back
because he promised a new india
i was disappointed never happened and
when vp singh became the uh prime
minister i was standing in front of ames
when all those boys were burning
themselves you know and i joined his
with this thing i joined arvind
kejriwal's protest also here also joined
everybody did at that time india against
corruption
everything so we i've spent a lot of
money into that and time money energy
emotion but i felt very disappointed
then i said that you cannot depend on
others if you really want to bring a
change you have to do it yourself so i
quit i resigned from bollywood means
mentally there is no office where you
can resign
and because bollywood when we say
establishment governments are never
establishments
establishment are the people who set the
rules of the game that is why royal
please don't mind i love you you know
that the reason i was stopping you
because i didn't want that conversation
to go further because that was setting
the rules of the game and after that all
young people start saying oh there are
different opinions there are no
different opinions similarly so i said
this democracy i have to make a comment
on everybody talks about equality
justice truth nobody knows what it is so
my my first film was about how students
are recruited by professors which came
true everybody knows sai baba was
arrested immediately after my film so
much happened so there are three lions
on our emblem there are three lions in
our emblem
what are these three lions so i wondered
what is democracy what are the pillars
of democracy
my first film tashkent files was on
right to truth if you don't know the
truth heart attack or murder doesn't
matter if i don't know that real truth
about the death of my second prime
minister i question the democracy
and
my third film is about right to life
when i realized our intellectuals
historians media they have failed to
educate the youth
to ask tough questions to our democracy
what after all is democracy i decided
i'll make these three films with my own
money
then abhishek agrawal a lot of people
got involved so that's what i'm doing so
i have a plan did none of you think that
a film on kashmir won to begin with
and then on kashmiri pundits very
specifically
and to bring it in the manner that you
did they're not being politically
correct in the
film they're not being solved they are
saying what it is
it could be a commercial suicide
what convinced you to make
because when you want to be yourself you
have to get rid of things which make you
dependent on other things
seriously i'm talking from my soul
everybody all of you sit and talk about
changing india how will india change
as long as we'll keep talking about
commercial suicide why i raised
spielberg's thing
he's a documentary filmmaker one day i
was wearing a t-shirt which had swastika
on it
and he kept looking at me and he and he
and he asked me he said why are you
wearing this i said because this
swastika i explained to him but i also
realized even if indirectly it hurts him
it is my as a human being responsibility
not to hurt his emotions because he has
gone through so much in his life
same thing we talk about blacks
what happens to us when we talk about
kashmiri hindus the reason i raised
steven spielberg not one person in this
world
leftists or communists or jihadis or
whoever right wing has asked him whether
six lakh people were killed or five lakh
people were killed in holocaust we
accept that holocaust was the most
inhuman thing most barbaric thing
happened but as everything happens
no hang on
this is the problem i am talking about
something which is so good and you are
not letting me talk
this is the problem no no we want to
hear it yeah so i am saying this film is
about humanity and education
give it due respect if you want to
change india and don't get involved into
number game they are not statistic they
are human beings if your parents were
killed you wouldn't have cared whether 4
000 people were killed or 400. if your
brother was killed or your sister was
raped you would never ever in your life
ask whether they are diverse views
because terrorism has no diverse views
no it has only one view that and
everything that happens when you talk of
kashmiri pundits are the reactions that
are immediately thrown at you

that you're back uh what's it like uh
coming back after a month in the
battlefield i hope you're not missing
the battlefield so i actually wanted to
be there longer you you and i had that
conversation
but uh it's good to be back it's
actually great to be back great to be
back to office to vidushi to aditi to my
parents family family here at work it's
great to be back but uh it would have
been great to be at the battlefield till
the end oh sure but none of this takes
away from our commitment to covering
this war this is just to give all our
viewers a sense of what the coverage was
like
gita you literally insisted demanded
that you be sent out to cover this war
and finally you are
and you did a fantastic job out and
about covering the war describe some of
your experiences well the biggest
challenge as we were speaking earlier
also rahul was to get your logistics
right you need if you're in a conflict
zone if you're reporting a loan you need
to get your logistics right and in that
there were no interpreters drivers had
fled home
so i had to drive my own vehicle had to
get my sources right because if you're
in the wrong hands you'll land up in the
wrong place so i had to get my sources
right built confidence so that those
were the bigger challenges once i had
that in place stories
that were to be told that should have
been told were told shwita one of your
passions is to cover the army and you
spend a lot of time with men in uniform
but it's one thing to see them practice
and the other to be in the middle of a
real war and i'll tell you they were
more jealous they they used to my all my
friends in the army used to send me
messages every single day asking me
what's the update and how is it like so
um i completely agree with gaurav that
uh i would have loved to be there sooner
uh because gita and i were trying to get
there the second visa because god flew
at a time when there was no war and we
had we knew we had to walk at a time
when there was a ward and there were air
raid sirens going all over when you had
no car no shelter just a
rucksack a backpack and you're just
walking into warzone so um i hope we did
well but i i think the the company was
the group was very confident that we
could do it
it's amazing to have such an opportunity
to go to a land you don't speak the
language in to go to a place where
there's a war going to go to a place
with actually you couldn't even carry
your bulletproofs with you and there was
no bulletproof there and so many people
have messaged or mailed or tweeted out
to say that they were actually watching
india today's coverage rather than
saying watching a cnn or bbc despite
this being an international story and
that just speaks uh volumes for the kind
of effort that our team did pawan this
was your first war experience so you
haven't covered any particular hostile
situation much more than say a riot and
here you were in the middle of a real
war

what really is happening on the ground
is russia genuinely making ingress are
the ukrainians actually being able to
push back
they are able to push back but how long
raul that remains a challenge but uh
when you look at the bigger picture and
we were privileged i mean uh you know we
we managed to get to kharkiv we went to
mario pole we were reporting from irepen
and bucha and bravery now since we were
driving i don't think anybody else went
out gaurav actually thought this is a
good opportunity to see a beautiful
country so from mario pole which later
got attacked to uh coming back all the
way to kiev and then finally to lavish
so you actually had a good ukraine
darshan absolutely and and driving
myself
you know so that that was the biggest
advantage if you can drive in europe uh
you know you can do anything that that
was one big advantage that we have at
times we relied on the google map like
when we were running out of mario pool
we were shot at because uh you know we
filmed something the ukrainian army or
was it a militia we do not know perhaps
they didn't like it and there we are you
got fired right that's when everyone got
really scared yeah in your vehicle who
was firing at you and why so it was
either the ukrainian army or the militia
or maybe the russians had come into that
area uh we saw a checkpoint we dodged it
uh you know rajesh was in the car with
us and rajesh was filming on his mobile
phone and suddenly you know in my rear
side view mirror i i and then you hear
it you see a gun cocked and tac-tac-tac
five rounds one after the other so
instinctively i just went zig-zag
zig-zag so that you dodged those bullets
and we were driving a beautiful suv so
this here was a lady who wanted to get
off mario pole mario paul was being
shelled she her driver didn't show up uh
she met somebody at our hotel we met the
another indian contact and that indian
contact said will you drive her car and
we said sure i didn't even know what car
it's a left-hand drive car
and we had absolutely no idea we just
said yes we will and we just dumped all
our stuff that lady dumped all her stuff
and we zipped past and the roads were
shut they had trees on the road so we
went in the kacha and then came out and
then they started firing at us we dodged
that and then we drove non-stop 350
kilometers anchoring two bulletins uh on
right while we were driving uh because
they were firing and we didn't know
whether we'd be able to get to that
place but we wanted to get the latest
back but we got to denipro safe denipro
is now under attack this is where the
fuji upbringing comes very handy yes
you're used to driving in the kacha and
you know having convoys fired at gita
give us a sense of the diplomatic state
of play because from what we can gather
in the headlines you've got ukraine and
russia apparently close to some kind of
a rapprochement is that for real
so uh the the ukrainians say that there
is no uh concept or idea of a neutral
state as of now because that would mean
absolute political suicide for zelensky
so zielinski's in a very tough position
right now
with the russians closing in on cave
and the russians wanting a regime change
will he step down or will he go in for a
compromise because the nato is not
coming european union is not going to
help them and there's going to be no
military intervention so ukrainians are
left to defend themselves and in that
they now need to decide whether if it is
worth continuing this war or negotiating
so they are negotiating but putin is
very clear you negotiate but there will
be no ceasefire uh icg ruling may be one
of them how can you negotiate when
there's war going on it has been they've
been negotiating the chief negotiator
level talks were taking place when they
attacked kiev uh the foreign
minister-level talks were taking place
when they destroyed kharkiv and mario
pole uh then they are now looking at a
president-level talk let's see if that
will come through there is a second
round of foreign minister level talks
that may have some forward movement on
this is all
talk about military and diplomacy

through your head when your father was

his car being fired at or he's up and
you're not being able to get through to
him
i think i mainly just missed him and i
wasn't too concerned because he done
this sort of stuff before but i just
missed him and that's all
i wasn't that worried you weren't

how is it in ukraine did because we saw
a lot of those mps actually pick up guns

i always swap their names so
these women who were standing at pickets
with false eyelashes painted nails
and with an ak-47 and strong women the
other one who we interviewed gita
she
her name was aditi incidentally
the indian name she had a hindu name and
uh and a nice
yeah ukrainian name elena so she was in
the army
and trained
to fire an ak-47
at 19 age 19
and she's an instructor now for the
militia she's an instructor for the
territorial army sorry yeah so uh the
women there are lovely they are into
combat and what i loved about ukraine
because when you stay at a particular
place you tend to get an affinity with
those people uh you can be neutral as a
journalist but when you look at those
people and their uh motivation
knowing fully well that you've got a
huge army in front of you russia was a
superpower and yet you're willing to
fight you you just taking a three-day
training and you're going there and
you're saying that the russians will
have to be pushed back i love that
spirit that they want to fight and this
is amazing either because what you have
here are civilians coming together and
saying we will fight guns being
distributed and civilians who otherwise
say are mps or doctors engineers some
even cyber warriors from one of your
story picking up guns absolutely so the
determination that we saw of the
civilians coming together and there's
age no bars so we interviewed
an 18 year old kid and a senior citizen
when we were in a brovery where attacks
were taking place and we're in the
trenches there was a senior citizen
yes
this there was a senior citizen there so
there was there's no bar to age but
again rahul there's a flip side to it
now the very same people who have now
been distributed ak-47s
if things settle down you don't know who
has guns who is a part of a militia a
group or mafia and if things go wrong it
could go very wrong in a civilian strife
within the country that's that's one
major concern quite a few senior
officials having you pawan what is the
most scary part of being out in ukraine
ukraine is a beautiful country but now
ravaged by warrants how difficult is it
to shoot these pictures of death
devastation destruction

there was a time when you were stuck in
a train at night because that train was
supposed to leave for kiev and
for 14 hours with no air conditioning
you were stuck in the train so this was
in mario pole uh before we took this
vehicle out we was up we had a ticket
and we were supposed to take a train out
but they shelled the railway line or
somewhere very close to the railway line
so the trains couldn't move we've
already sitting inside the train so the
engine driver and the conductor they
switched off all lights railway station
all lights switched off train all light
switched off and thousands of people
locked inside a train you can't get out
you can't uh you don't do anything and
13 hours we were inside that train and
there was shelling that was that was
happening around in mario pole uh very
close to the railway station and
ultimately that area was targeted but we
just sat there now the moment
instinctively as a journalist you you
you know you start recording people
around said your lights they'll see
they'll start shelling and then you just
have to sit there so then you did the
next best thing you went off to sleep so
you had a good night's sleep were you
watching uh television were you
plugged in or were you in your own zone
i was watching you're watching all the
time yeah
are you scared
good good good that's amazing this is a
very i mean
i don't know how people reflect on this
but this is a very foggy thing that
you've got a member of your family out
in the battlefield and of course you're
anxious and you're concerned but you're
not scared and that is just uh truly
testament to the spirit of uh being a
faji bachchan god of just by association
and she's born in a foggy family so she
is in that sense of aji vaccha and
living up to being a faji watcher
absolutely but you know what was very
interesting rahul uh something that we
take away from this battle that one
month plus that we were there is the
spirit of the people of ukraine to fight
against all odds they're getting their
weapons they're learning to fight they
may not agree with president zilinski
but they're still fighting a large
number of zelinski popular he was at one
point of time very popular and those who
love him the nationalists they worship
him uh including some who say that even
though he there are new nazis or or the
azov battalion uh you know uh that
they're there so those elements are are
gung-ho about war but there are those
who are not gang who about war but they
too are standing up because they don't
want somebody else to make the rules how
did people in ukraine respond to
zelenski because just before the war
he'd become a bit of an unpopular person
because he seemed to be in denial and
delusion but he seems to really rally to
the moment that that is that's a very
important question rahul because this
whole rallying behind the president
started happening when putin moved
beyond donbass till the time he can find
himself to donbass which is a pro-russia
russian-origin
people kind of a area it was okay but
till then they when he moved to kharkiv
mariopol and kiev that's when the
nationalism you know of all the people
started they were more nationalistic
than anyone else and
the support for president zilenski was
not just from the people from opposition
parties now or there is no opposition in
ukraine because everybody's rallying
behind zelensky so his popularity has
grown because of the war but is it
sustainable because a lot of people now
are questioning
what were your assurances and if you did
not have assurances why were you talking
about joining nato and european union
without having those assurances and
taken an entire country to war so these
are only a few people who are asking
these questions putin having invaded
ukraine is a huge mistake because if
putin wanted ukrainians to like him and
wanted a regime change that certainly is
not happening within india we had a lot
of people with asking us about where are
they staying where are they what are
they eating how are they traveling how
safe are they give us a sense of what
life was like in ukraine
uh
pretty
okay pretty
i wouldn't say uh completely comfortable
so we had an indian family to fall back
on uh at least we were short of warm
break hot breakfast
uh soup and and you want to say big
thank you to kulibj and his family so
thank you so much if you're watching in
ukraine at this time so uh they looked
after us uh and after that uh we bought
on the field so it was a normal practice
not to have lunch and just have dinner
at night but we were very lucky to have
food very lucky to have food at a time
when uh most of the people who were
living there in kiev didn't have uh
access to
uh regular hot meals
the refugee train refugee bus
and the flight
uh
the the train was around 12 to 14 hours
then the bus journey was also almost
that time and i think uh
we didn't have any food except for
chocolate and a bar of chocolate amongst
all of us and
packer of chips amongst all of us for
two days
two days
how do you think this is likely to end
in the way that this battle is
progressing and from all that we know at
this moment
well
see the winter months were important for
putin because this is the time for him
to push europe will not push back and
that's what happened but now it's time
for negotiations because putin will
continue pushing unless and until
ukraine agrees to a few conditions
i don't think all of the conditions will
be met with but uh certainly some of
them neutrality is one of them and it's
non-negotiable not joining nato is
non-negotiable for for putin and that
certainly is an area that can be that
can be one of the reasons why this war
can come to an end uh i do not think
that uh recognizing the republics is
something that uh ukraine would agree to
at this point in time crimea maybe
they'll give give way to so yeah it is
it is going to be a long
process of negotiation before things
come true i must tell our viewers that
when our crew came back from ukraine our
chairman and editor-in-chief declared
one-week holiday he doesn't want to see
them in office so i have got her we have
no plans i can see aditya she's sitting
there she's waving saying yay i'm so
happy that you're back i hope you have
no plans for wanting to go back or we
won't be filling up requisitions please
send me back so i i take a week off
since that's an instruction and we take
this one week off uh you know i'm taking
vidushi out the moment we come back i'm

declaration on first january 1942 26

their relentless attacks on key

russian troops halt convoy of buses
traveling to evacuate residents of

no reaction from the

a few dozen russians including several
children were seen waiting in the mexico
border for several days now wrapping
themselves in thick blankets to sleep
merely several feet from the border wall
hoping u.s officials will hear their
pleas for protection

called on saturday for comprehensive
peace talks with moscow to stop its
invasion of ukraine saying it would
otherwise take russia
several generations to recover from its

saturday as he called on russia to stop
its invasion
this is the only chance for russia to
reduce harm from its mistakes he said

the 24th russian forces have taken heavy
losses and their advance has largely
stalled but they have laid siege to
cities blasting urban areas to rubble

the port city of mariopol has been hit
particularly hard
officials there say fighting has reached
the city center and heavy shelling has
prevented humanitarian aid from getting

adding that she had sat in a cellar for
10 days with no water or
electricity our homes are destroyed
bombs landed in the yards and in every
flat the windows were blown out so we
took our parrot the dog and together
with the whole family we got in the car
and drove there were lots of people
dying on the streets dead bodies were
lying on the streets
efforts to evacuate civilians were also
underway in the eastern region of
luhansk its governor said on saturday a
regime of silence has been agreed for
march the 19th sergi gaidai said in a
message on telegram adding that a
humanitarian corridor had been opened le
chance lies in ukraine's coal-rich
non-bass region that has been partly
controlled by russia-backed separatists
since 2014
defense ministry said on saturday it had
used hypersonic missiles to destroy a
large weapons depot in ukraine's western
irvana frankevsk region missiles had
also destroyed ukrainian military and
reconnaissance centers near the port of
odessa the interfax news agency quoted
the ministry as saying reuters was not
able to independently verify the reports
moscow calls its actions in ukraine a
special operation to demilitarize and
denazify its southern neighbour
kiev and moscow reported some progress

the u.s denies any chemical weapons
programs exist

biological weapons program in violation
of international law it is russia
that has a well-documented history of
using chemical weapons
it is russia who is the aggressor here
the united states also warned that
russia may very well be planning its own
chemical weapons attack using a false
flag allegation to justify it it was the
second time in two weeks that the
security council met on the subject at
russia's request
the un's high representative for
disarmament said they had no evidence of
chemical or biological weapons but she
also conceded that the united nations
currently has neither the mandate nor
the technical or operational capacity to
investigate this invest in information i
ask the united kingdom's ambassador if
that undermines their argument if there
is a genuine concern the right thing to
do would be to seal off the site
have a ceasefire seal off the site and
then allow experts in to investigate
it is not the right thing to do to bring
spurious claims to the un security
council which are debunked by everyone

weapons convention which prohibits their

nations causing damage to civilian
infrastructure and mounting casualties

footing there's no way for it not to
affect us anymore we have to fight this
war and those who are stoking it keeping
it going and are prepared to take it to

but friday's flag waving in moscow and
other cities will though you won't hear
that ukraine says it's fighting for its
survival or that the west dismisses
accusations that it wants to rip russia

me 17 helicopters very visible very
iconic they're the mainstay the backbone
of india's medium lift helicopter fleet
then you've got me 35 heavy assault
helicopters also of russian origin
operated by india the me 26 heavy lift
helicopters the biggest helicopters in
the world also in indian service are
from russia the brahmos cruise missile
is an indo-russian joint venture much of
the technology is from russia
coming to missiles from the r-77 to the
27 to the r 73 virtually all air-to-air
missiles currently used by indian air
force aircraft are of russian origin
when it comes to air-to-surface missiles
huge numbers are from russia kh-59 kh-35
kh-31 air-to-surface munitions all of
russian origins india also operates many
different types of the kab family of
bombs that are air launched not to
mention the igla man pads which you're
actually seeing being used in ukraine
right now those are also the shoulder
fired air defense systems that have been
in service with india for a very long
time and are of russian origin

anti-war newcomers need a life to settle

due to the crippling international
sanctions their credit cards don't work
most have no plan
it's pretty nice and clean and it's good
enough to occur iva rappaport is an
anthropology researcher who left russia
nine years ago she has been in istanbul
for nearly two years and stayed out of
politics but now she helps other
russians who fled to get a roof over
their heads
i cannot go on and
do my regular daily routines when
something like so unjust and like so
uncalled for is

others in self-exile fear for the future
and putin's potential revenge
when he turns back from the war he will
turn his eyes to the people that did not
support his actions and that will be war
inside
as well as russians some ukrainians also
ended up in istanbul
uric is married to a russian in kazan
but felt he wasn't safe there or in his
hometown kiev either
it's really sad that
russian people
they worry about their economy when uh
