to go on holiday with your girlfriend

car in the parking lot
and i called my mother it was i

so hard to say it out loud
at that moment and all the emotions were released at
that moment i had to cry
ms is a disease of the central
nervous system that can manifest itself in many
ways causing one person to end
up in a wheelchair very quickly while
the other is still able to cope with
us and disease
with a thousand faces and
all kinds of questions came to my mind
what does it mean to me what does the
future look like do I die sooner do I have to
take medication do I have
to live on the ground floor
all questions what i had
absolutely no answer for at the time
my world came crashing down
how the hell was i going to deal with this
setback
it took a while but i
realized i couldn't
ignore a knife
but I refused to spend the rest of my
life focusing on something that might
still come
I could get strength out of this setback
setbacks are never fun and I don't wish
anyone the misery of a setback the
loss of loved ones
illness are fired a burn out
but give everyone the corresponding
experience because I have learned that if
you learn to deal with your setback well, there is
always something positive to get out of it
that it often leads to new insights
and sometimes even to the total new
attitude to life
and of course I am not unique
at all in what are a lot of people who have already
proven that they can deal with their adversity
and that we can make something beautiful out of
my life
the beautiful thing is that if you
listen carefully to all those people that they
indicate that they are most proud of
what they have achieved during or
during that setback
I have learned that three things are
important to the strength
to unlock the power of adversity
embrace your adversity
set a clear goal and enjoy
the proverbial journeys
so that would put in a formula then it
is embracing your adversity
plus setting the goal
plus enjoying the journey is the
power of adversity
i would like to take you into how the
power of adversity has worked for me
and how it might work for
you too and trust
that its really easier way than
everest to learn this
the diagnosis ms is the biggest adversity
in my life
something which I will never get rid of
the disease is incurable after all totally
unpredictable
it took quite a while
for me to accept that I
am chronically incurable but
what has helped a lot
is to tell it out loud to
other people to tell you that I am sick
just like I finally tell you here now
after I got that
diagnosis I decided for myself that I wanted to
try to get strength out of this
setback and that I actually also
wanted to realize my dreams but what we really like
her and my
dreams, at that moment a
friend came and said that she would climb the kilimanjaro before her 40th
want to climb the highest
mountain in africa
my girlfriend and I and said that
is a cool goal we are going to do
that so done and within a year
we were on the top
of the highest mountain in africa with nine friends and
that eventually became my first experience
with mountaineering
i then wondered what more could i
achieve what the highest
mountains in the world but everest
i would be the first man with a person in the
world

first man with a human in the world

went to listen to alpinists it turned out that someone you

mountaineer or that the hiking mountain is and has little

after three years of hard training work
other expeditions climbed other mountains
I did it and stood
on top of the mountain
the highest mountain in the world
I was very proud that I gave that range
I had succeeded
and that's it in the end importance
of setting goals
so i would have been able to embrace the
setback
but also had been able to set a
very clear goal
embracing your
setbacks i often liken to
holding a ball under water that paul is your
setback and you can fight and fight against it for a long time
you keep it under water but in the end
you can't do anything else
and it comes up hard

then you have to do something with it
what you can also do is let the ball float on the

at all sides and analyze your problem
and then see what
can i do with it if you can do that and

but if you succeed you can eventually
take the step towards setting
goals

life determining what to do and what

to muster the discipline to
working hard on something
I finally succeeded
and as I said I was very proud that
I had that reach and realized once
that maybe it was not all
just about achieving the top but
that maybe it's much more important lost the
whole journey to get there is everest climb
the most beautiful thing i ever did
the whole journey to get there was at least as
beautiful
all the people i met all the
new things i learned all the new things i learned

things I had never done before
but the most beautiful all special
encounters and friends
sometimes even strangers who were suddenly ready for me in
the
end it was not about
getting to the top
it was about the proverbial journey
there and just think about it
so 45 minutes on top of everest
ate
you trained for it for three years
eh
and did not enjoy it then it
arrived after all very poor habitation don't you think
it is ultimately about that
proverbial journey
the biggest setback and my life ms
has only helped in the end
to get to know myself better and to
do what really matters to me from
banker to
social entrepreneur and here now
finally standing on the dot for
you and helped to realize my biggest
dream
being the first ms patients
to climb monks times trevor swedish
but it was more succeeded
how to turn something very negative into something very
positive in my life
so strong even that I now dare to say
that I am grateful to ms for everything I
have received in return so much
so that I dare to say that
thanks to man I climbed ever stepper
we can achieve so much more
than my sometimes self think

have been able to unlock the power of adversity
