live q a if you have any questions
um let me know just drop them below
and um yeah i've i got already a lot of
good questions so uh
i'll start with them today was a was a
very hard day
um i raised my first race for tim
yemovisma and of course
i was pumped to to raise in the in the
black and yellow um but yeah
i had a good start and then uh i i had
to find my rhythm
i had to uh go back in
uh one gear and uh and
it down little and on such a course then
uh obviously
uh it's gonna be a tough day in the
saddle so um
yeah looking forward to what's next and
uh i'll
i i won't um we'll take this this day
too long with me and uh i will
recover from this train and then
next one is up in two weeks uh
normally you would have had uh nationals
uh next week but in the netherlands uh
yeah unfortunately this cannot go on so
uh the next race will be uh
the week after well there's a lot of
questions how it is to be
part of team jumbo visma and yeah like i
said at the start of this
this q a it's it's very cool to be part
of
team yo movismana with the women's squad
as well and
the team has had a huge
year of course but an incredible growth
over the last years
uh be yeah being strong in
whatever kind of racing they're they're
doing um
so to be part of this structure highly
professional um i think yeah this
can add a lot to our team and um
i think the staff and all the people are
working hard to
you know to make this uh yeah a great
team um for us
um and also yeah of course we want to
want to add something to the team as
well as the women's squad so
yeah we're very grateful to to have this
this chance and
yeah we're looking forward to to the
season i was
happy to kick off today for for the
women's squad and i
i've tried to do to do my best of course
as always and i would have loved to be
be better in the first but yeah oh
we will have to to go on to do what's
next and uh there's a lot of races to
come
so looking forward to that and yeah
there's people
question asking about the support from
the team i got
and of course it's a little um
strange to to change
in the season so last week with my
former team and now
for iambovisma um so yeah then
there's a lot of changes but the support
for the team
of the team has been has been great i've
had the opportunity
to to get the clothing in time the the
bikes in time and
to test everything well and to be ready
for for today's race
what do we eat before uh before a race
what do i eat as breakfast i had
oats oats this morning
and and then
after after the warming up on the course
i had some some bread bread with uh
apple strobe which which is a typical
dutch thing
um it's a it's a sweet
um it's just
it's a sweet paste and um yeah it's uh
it's
normally it's it's it's carbs it's easy
to digest so
that's what i had this morning and what
this is what i
normally do as a as a pre-race uh
breakfast and snack um what
music do i listen before the race
actually i'm
not really listening to music before
race i really love music and
depending on my mood i really love to
just
switch on music in the evening or relax
or at dinner in the background but
before a raise i
like to focus without music and just
hear the noises around me and then get
in the zone myself so
no real pre-race music for me
it's a good question um about
what i think about the season that's
coming up
the road season and my role in the
in the team and yeah for
for sure i i'm looking forward to
race with these girls we we know each
other
from from the last years in the bunch
as competitors and now yeah we
we are one team we have a we have a
fantastic team we have
some more experienced riders we have
some more also younger riders
uh talented riders and a lot of
potential and i think
uh the team has has done a great job to
find a good balance
in in this and yeah my role
of course will be
the role as a writer and i'm just trying
to make the best of my
capabilities and i also
want to share my experience with my
33 years i've
i've i've done quite a lot of racing and
training
and it's not that you learn
from all the the best uh the best things
but
you also make some some mistakes and um
these learning experiences it's uh
yeah it's it's it's good to share them
and i think
in this way we can learn from each other
uh we can also learn from from the man's
team
from all the experience that is there
at the guide but also at the staff so i
think we can
help each other grow it's great that
the team and also the sponsors wanted to
have
this this women's team as addition to
to the team that they have now and of
that that that was
already there with the man's team and
the development squad
and now uh it's complete so yeah
as a whole team um and i think i can
speak for uh for all of the
the women uh we're looking forward to to
this season and
and show this the scholars in the in the
bunch
well how did you keep yourself motivated
during guarantee
and um of course this is a an
interesting question and
we're all in this global
corona pandemic which is has a big
impact on the
whole society and where
health of course general health is most
important
and as a as an athlete you know that
yeah sports is um
is not the most important thing to do
that at that moment
but um you also want to stay fit and
uh yeah i want to want to stay healthy
and ready for
for when the races could go on um
but in holland we had we had the
uh the possibility to go out and train
so uh
the training just switched a little
uh to be more based ratings um but then
still
we were able to go go out solo or
later with two so that that was still uh
good possibilities to go out and ride
and yeah i think we were
sort of lucky with that well there's
somebody who asks what
what i can suggest or can say to
somebody
who wants to grow in the sport and um
well this is a very wide question and
the the best advice i can give just keep
doing what you love most and
if that's if that's cycling

then keep it in balance so
if you if you're in training don't
always
put yourself to the limits but also
think about the bass but
because riding starts with the base so
do different things
uh do easier rides um go for
shorter more intense rides
and um yeah if you're
uh yeah you want to do better maybe also
do
um alternative trainings or
um yeah do something different than the
bike for
uh for a change but um yeah
most important thing is enjoy
do a cycle when i'm in my period
and well yes
maybe i'm lucky and i don't have too
many
um yeah too much stress around my
period or so yeah i still ride and
yeah like i say i think i'm maybe lucky
so i don't have
too much stomach pain or whatever pain
can
can go along uh but it's sometimes good
to
adapt to training or yeah
well the racing is hard to adapt because
you you still want to
go full gas if you have a race but adapt
to training
intensity or length if you're in your
period
because otherwise the body can go out of
balance
so yeah it's it's that's an interesting
question and
there's not much talk around it but find
a balance for yourself that's the most
important
well here's the question how does it
feel to be a role model or
an inspiration for so many people and
actually i don't feel like i'm a role
model or inspiration i've
never dreamed of of this role

but of course it's great when people get
inspiration or motivation from what
you're doing
and yeah i'm trying
just to to be myself and do what i like
most and then
it's it's very nice when you can share
your passion
and when you don't only
do it for yourself when you can um
yeah can can help other people or
yeah like you say being a role model for
other people so
yeah actually um i'm very grateful
for um for
for the talents i i got and i'm i'm
trying to make
the best of the of these talents and
make the best
results also for my team and and the
people around me
but then to add something uh for other
people
uh that's yeah that's what you're
actually doing it for
so that that's even that's even better
than the results or whatever medal you
can win
strength training yay or nay yes
well yeah very important i think very
important part of the
of the training is uh uh
power nor strength training and core
stability
as a cyclist um and especially as a
cyclopros rider
you ask a lot of your body
you work a lot with your body and
it's very important to to keep the the
body in balance
and if you uh
if you do strength training uh
in in a good way and that's very
personal i i
cannot advise uh on individual base
because
it's very difficult to say what what's
the best for somebody
but i think if you if you add it in the
right way to
to your training schedule it's it's a
very good
addition and very useful um
in one way to to perform better and in
the other way
um to to be able to
to get ahead of an injury so
yeah i think it's uh it's very good to
do um how do you train for cyclocross
mountain biking too well i've done
mountain marking in the past and i
really liked it so i think
uh um yeah it's it's it's a great
way of of riding the bike
and yeah maybe in the future
i would like to to pick up some some
riding on in the mountains on a mountain
bike
again but for now the combination of
cyclocross and
rote is uh is good enough it's busy
enough
and i think it's it's also a good
combination to do so cyclic resist
is a very intense um way of
yeah racing so it's it's
it's very um very hard
but it's it's a great addition in the
winter training
also for building up towards the road
um and then road
is of course a very good training going
into cyclocross
and in the past there have been many
discussion
discussions about this combination if
it's possible to do
two seasons and or
whether it's not not good to make the
combination
but now with uh wild fanart and
macho from the pool showing there
uh of course the yeah they're their
talents they're
uh showing what they're made of and
doing this
combination of cyclocross and road um
yeah i think they
they really show that it is possible if
you if you do it in the right way and
it's great to see those guys uh
make this uh make this combination do
what they love
follow their heart and yeah i think it
also
shows that cyclocross is uh is a high
level uh
is a high level sport there's a question
from somebody
who's asked uh about my overtraining
period in 2015 what
were the signs of over training well
actually it was obvious that the
recovery was just not really good or
very bad and yeah so
um i could train but actually
after training my level dropped so with
the increase of training i got worse and
worse and then
it was aside to um
yeah work together with the team and
think about
what was wrong and what could go better
and
then the rest was the only option and um
i'm very happy i did that it was a
difficult period but also a very um
good good period to overthink and to
recharge and then get ready for for now
and
i'm happy i did that and i'm very happy
and motivated
to now still go on and actually i think
that period
helped me um to focus on
what i really like and to think about
wow this is actually in the live as a
pro athlete that's
um something
you can't take for granted which is
what is very beautiful
and yeah i came to the conclusion that i
really wanted to do longer and
i'm very happy to be able to do this now
for free and bohismo
what is my favorite thing to do outside
of cycling
like i just said listening to music
before race is not really
uh part of the schedule but
i really like to to listen to some good
music
i like to have a really
nice dinner
now most of the times at home because
because of the partly lockdown
but then still really taking the time to
have
have a proper meal

and yeah and normally with cycling we're
very busy we're traveling we're running
around
we're going from this race to that race
and then it's not easy
to switch off and relax so i really like
to
spend some time at home have some more
easy time see friends or family
and then yeah also have some
some time off the bike
and really switch off and recharge again
to
to be really focused on the bike again
um so it's not really something like
uh bungee jumping or park lighting or
but just being at home taking time for
yourself and
and people around me how did i
work on my skills for cyclocross and
this
is uh well actually it's not easy to
combine for me this with the with with
the road season
um when coming late into the season
it's really hard to work on these skills
and get it right and get the timing
right
and so the last weeks has been
yeah i've been been working hard on on
this
uh but as a kid i also
i wasn't already into cyclocross so as a
seven year yeah six six year old seven
year
i went into road cycling in the winter
time already into cyclocross
so in that way i've been lucky to work
on those skills on a very
early age i think it's
easier to learn then but still of course
it's
it's still learning uh here you have to
keep on improving you have to keep on
working
on these goals so um yeah
i think i've been been lucky to be young
into the sport
but i can say you're
never never too old to learn and every
day i'm
still trying to improve together with
the team around me
how my week before uh before
cyclocross race looks like well of
course this is
not always the same and it's uh it's
different for different riders but for
me
yeah normally like tomorrow the day
after
uh after a race i will have an easier
recovery ride
um then tuesday will be a
longer lesser intensity ride
than the tuesday uh the wednesday sorry
can be a specific cycle course training
um and that's uh
yeah that's also technique but also
intervals
and then the thursday can or
be a an endurance ride depending on
yeah on on the week what you want to
improve
if it's uh if it's a building week or if
it's
really uh uh a race
a race weekend where you're working
towards and then it can be
a shorter ride so purely recovery
and then yeah it's uh sometimes i like
to do some

some more higher cadence
rides it can be on the runners or
motorbasing so yeah i think this is
this is what the normal week looks like
