Good day I’m Amanda, I’m 27 years old and I’m from Belgium.
I’ve always been passionate about cars, my father is a car dealer and since I was little...
...he used to take me everywhere in all kinds of cars and to car shows where I always loved those cars with a horse on it.
And then I eventually ended up at this car, the blue Shelby, it always was my dream car and I think that will never change.
Through my mustang love I ended up in the mustang world and there you have a very fun club,
I always pull up to places driving my car and people will look at me a bit funny
because a girl steps out of such a car and they’ll react like “Oh is that your dads car or your boyfriends?”
So I always have to explain that that’s my car and I’ll tell them how much I love my car and what I love about my car.
Together with this car comes a bit of an American lifestyle of rock ‘nd roll, tattoos, rockabilly just a bit more of the cool more fun side,
and that suits me fine because I’m a bit of an badass I love tattoos, tattooing, the music, going out for a nice dinner,
touring around with my car, a bit like it was in America in the sixties and that lifestyle kind of suits me,
I wasn’t born into it but it has grown on me I think and this car is just an extension of that and has become a part of my identity over the years.
What makes a Shelby more than just a mustang? Well back in 1969 they took a mustang,
just a regular mustang mach 1, they took it to a different factory and there they took of the nose and the rear end
and they put on a new polyester nose and rear end on that was differently styled.
They added a rollbar, the motor got pimped up a bit with a different carburetor and intake, they altered the suspension a bit so it would corner better.
And that’s how you suddenly ended up with a Shelby, slap on a few badges and bam you got a whole new car.
That’s one of the things that I find very cool about the car, that it’s just that little bit more than the standard Mustang,
the standard pony car, it turned into more of a race horse.
It drives amazing, it drives swift without being nervous, because I really dislike driving nervous cars,
it still drives pretty relaxed and makes a great sound, I don’t need a radio, it’s just pure enjoyment and going for a drive is like having a mini vacation.
It’s still pretty fast and sporty.
They just have a whole look, an appearance, a bit of a culture. It’s a kind of music, it’s a kind of life, it’s a kind of love I’d say.
And then there was a day I fell in love with this car, I had only seen it on pictures but I instantly fell in love as it was really my dream car.
At the time I still had a ’69 Mach 1 that I put up for sale that same day and could sell a few days later, that made me able to buy this car.
But I didn’t quite have it yet because it was still in the US at that time so it still had to come over here by boat and that took about 2 months.
That we’re 2 months where I’d wake up in the middle of the night wondering if it was already here.
Then came the day he was finally here and I just couldn’t wait to sit in it, look at everything, start it, hear the sound and then drive it around.
I just fell in love instantly, love at first sight, I have never had something like this with a car, it’s just the car,
everything about it is perfect, everything is beautiful and it drove perfectly, just more than I had ever expected.
And now what’s under the hood, a 351 Winsor, 5,7 liter and back in the days it had 290hp.
It’s all still as it once was in ’69 and not a lot has been done about it which I really like, that the car is still how it left the factory.
The car turns 46 this year and nothing has been changed, things we’re build to last a lifetime and it really does.
This always makes me happy, It really makes me ecstatic to do that,
just getting pushed back into your seat because the car accelerates, I just find that such a good feeling.
