that just seems irresponsible to me and
they're putting the whole nation at risk
keep in mind we started from a case from
italy look what happened to us
mcdonald says the key is risk management
and is optimistic that summer will be
more normal
but says the variant could change that
it really is a wild card it could ruin
everyone's summer
mcdonald says rhode island is not seeing
a lot of the new strains and has
identified about seven cases of the uk
variant
four of the california variant and one
case of the new york variant but that's
where we need to be
optimistic that we're going to have a
really good summer but realistic about
if things get worse we're going to dial
it back but sure go ahead and plan for
fun i plan on it
on the vaccine front mcdonald is hopeful
that by may every rhode islander who
wants the shot can get it
he says so far the state is on track to
have 70 to 75 percent of the population
choose to get the vaccine and as we've
been reporting rhode island received its
first
shipment of the single shot johnson and
johnson vaccine
this week mcdonald says he hopes to see
all 9 100 doses administered by sunday
