Any of the three Greek goddesses of fate or destiny; identified with the Roman Parcae and similar to the Norse Norns
In Greek mythology, the Moirai or Moerae /u02C8mu026Aru02CCiu02D0/ or /u02C8miu02D0u02CCriu02D0/ (Ancientu00A0Greek: u039Cu03BFu1FD6u03C1u03B1u03B9, "apportioners"), often known in English as the Fates (Latin: Fatae), were the white-robed incarnations of destiny; their Roman equivalent was the Parcae (euphemistically the "sparing ones"). Their number became fixed at three: Clotho (spinner), Lachesis (allotter) and Atropos (unturnable).
In classical Greek mythology, they are the Fates, the goddesses of birth and death.
