How to pronounce letter case in English?

Hello and welcome to Google Sheets studies at Railsware Academy.
Here we present various approaches, tips and tricks for you to use when working with data
in Google Sheets.
We show you the basic formulas, more complex formulas and how those work together.
So subscribe for our channel to become a Pro in Google Sheets.
And today I will help you to start using the SUM formula.
There are various ways how you can get totals in Google Sheets.
We will go through different approaches and you can choose the best
one depending on your needs.
We will use the clients payments details as our dataset.
Here we have the names of our clients, their subscription type, location, company size,
and payment amounts for a specific month.
In Google Sheets, we work with numbers a lot.
And we often need to total a range.
If you have many numbers to be summed, doing it manually is not efficient.
In this case, you can use the SUM formula.
For this, type in the equality sign, “SUM” (and the letter-case doesn't matter here) and open
parentheses.
The description of the formula will pop up.
If it somehow interferes you, you can hide it.
Open parentheses, click and drag the range you want to get summed, close parentheses
and press Enter.
If you have a much larger dataset to be summed, you can type the range manually in the formula.
For this, type equality sign, SUM, open parentheses, cell index where the range starts, colon
and the last cell index.
Close the parentheses and press Enter.
There is one more trick you can use when specifying a range.
Imagine you want to add new payments to the dataset every month, and you want the SUM to be updated
automatically.
In Google Sheets, you can state the whole column as a range.
In our case, we need to summarize the E column, specifically – values from E2 till the end
of the column, So in the formula we type: equality sign, SUM, open parentheses, E2,
colon, E, close parentheses, enter.
If you want to use this approach, remember not to add anything else except of the payments
to the column E, as it will break the logic.
We recommend you to keep your dataset and your calculations in different columns. Or,
on different tabs.
And here is the last trick with getting a simple SUM in Google Sheets.
If you need to have a quick look at the sum of numbers, but don’t need it permanently
on your sheet, select the range to be summed.
A new tab will appear in the bottom right corner of the window.
You can see the sum, as well as the average, minimum and maximum value, and the count of items
in the selected range.
Let’s see how the SUMIF and SUMIFS formulas work.
I will show you some useful tricks to organize your data, so that you can
boost your level of proficiency in this tool.
If you need to sum a range that matches one specific criteria, you can use the SUMIF formula.
Let’s go back to our client's payments database and count the revenue from our customers in
the United States.
To use the SUMIF formula we need to define the criteria range and a range that needs
to be summed.
So the criteria range will be the location, and we need to sum the payments.
Type in the equality sign, SUMIF, open parentheses and this is where the formula description
pops up again.
You can always use it in case you get lost!
Define the criteria range this is the C column, starting from C2, so
we type: C2, colon, C, comma Now we define the exact value to match
for this, open quotes, type “United States” close the quotes
remember that when you use quotes in Google Sheets formula, the algorithm will
search for the exact match, so make sure that the letter case matches, and that you don’t
have any additional spaces.
You can also use the data validation function to keep your data accurate.

Finally, we define the range to sum. For us this is column E, starting from E2
and to include all of the values that can be added in the future, so we type: E2, colon,
E and close the parentheses. We press Enter and can see the SUMIF formula
result.
There is one more way to input the value.
Add the value to a separate cell, and type in this cell index to the SUMIF formula as
the value to match.
This input method is a better way to input data
Because you can visually match criteria and the counted sum
And also, you don’t have to type in long texts in the formula and making sure those match.
Simply click on the cell or type in the cell index, and you are all set.
You might need to sum a range that matches multiple criteria.
And this is where we use the SUMIFS formula.
The logic is the same as for the SUMIF, but the structure is slightly different, and here
you can add multiple criteria ranges and values.
Let’s count the revenue from enterprise clients based in the United States.
We type the equality sign, SUMIFS, open parentheses, range to sum (E2:E), criteria range #1 (C2:C),
value to match (“United States”), criteria range #2 (D2:D), value to match (“Enterprise”),
close parentheses and press Enter.
You can also add values in separate cells and type in their indexes in the formula.
Now we can see the sum counted based on multiple criteria.
You can also use the SUMIFS formula to get a sum based on the single criteria - the formula
will still work.
And this is how you use the SUMIF and SUMIFS formulas in Google Sheets.
