the bible's greek new testament
describes a number of things as
mysteries
in the greek the word is musterion
which in the new testament means a
doctrine that was secret back in the
days of the old testament but now as
revealed in other words they were things
you couldn't figure out just by reading
the torah the prophets this word is used
28 times in the new testament some of
them are fully explained in fact most of
them
but some of them are yet to be fully
understood and these are the ones we're
going to go over in detail in this video
today
now in terms of those mysteries that are
explained the passage usually tells us
directly like this
quote and jesus answered them to you it
has been granted to know the mysteries
of the kingdom of heaven but to them it
has not been granted
matthew 13 11 so jesus explained the
mysteries of the kingdom to the
disciples mysteries not explained in the
old testament now recorded in the
gospels
the epistles also describe a number of
mysteries that are revealed in the new
testament in romans 11 25 for instance
paul tells us that a partial hardening
has come upon israel up until the full
number of gentiles that will be saved
are saved in romans 16 25 paul tells us
the gospel itself was a mystery paul
reiterates that the gospel of christ's
death and resurrection where a mystery
in times past in first corinthians 2 1-8
there he also explains the reason why
that the fallen angels which he calls
rulers and powers wouldn't have
crucified jesus if they had known god's
full plan of salvation in advance
so in this verse
paul explained why
god kept this a mystery
numerous other passages called the
gospel of mystery 2 such as ephesians 3
and 6
colossians 1 in other passages faith is
called a mystery as is godliness and
even christ himself
in first corinthians 15 51-52
paul revealed another mystery that not
everyone would die before they receive
transformed resurrection bodies
this mystery is sometimes misunderstood
to mean that the rapture itself was a
mystery
but that is not what the passage says in
fact the rapture isn't even mentioned in
this passage
behold i am telling you a mystery we
will not all sleep but we will all be
changed see there's the mystery in a
moment in a twinkling of an eye at the
last trumpet for the trumpet will sound
and the dead will be raised imperishable
and we will be changed
as you can see it's only the change into
resurrection bodies that was the mystery
rapture isn't even mentioned

now in ephesians 5 23 we learned that
marriage between a man and a woman
is a mysterious picture
of christ in the church
and in second thessalonians 2 7
we learned that the fact that
lawlessness or iniquity is already at
work in paul's day was a mystery
a hidden or concealed depravity some
sort of sin
which was working secretly and silently
and preventing the revealing of the
antichrist
this is a super important mystery and
the passage probably says something
different
than you think or have thought it meant
in this other recent video

this mystery in quite a lot of detail

that is all the mysteries that have been
revealed however
revelation as you might imagine presents
several unsolved mysteries
let's take a look at them
in revelation 10 we encounter probably
the most misunderstood mystery passage
in the whole bible
but in the days of the voice of the
seventh angel when he is about to sound
it means before he sounds
then the mystery of god is finished
as he preached to his servants the
prophets revelation 10 7 from this
many believe the seventh trumpet is the
final event before the return of jesus
it kind of sounds like it doesn't it
however let's reconsider what mystery
means it means something that wasn't
revealed in the old testament that now
is revealed in the new testament the
return of the messiah is clearly
revealed in multiple old testament
passages so you know that can't be a
return of messiah is not a mystery
some other mystery
not discussed in the old testament must
be in view
so let's look at this verse in context
that will help
when the seven peels of thunder had
spoken
i was about to write
and i heard a voice from heaven saying
seal up the things which the seven peals
of thunders have spoken and do not write
them
right there is a mystery
something that was revealed to john
but then he was commanded not to write
it down
it's still a mystery today actually
then the angel whom i had saw standing
on the sea and on the land lifted up his
right hand to the heaven and swore by
him who lives forever who created heaven
and all the things in it and the earth
and all the things in it and the sea and
all the things in it that there will be
delay no longer
now this isn't real delay
but the perceived delay people have that
it is taking jesus a long time
to get everything accomplished but in
the days of the voice of the seventh
angel
this is the key phrase that the seventh
angel speaks
he uses his voice
it takes days for him to do this also
when he is about to sound
again this is another key point this
happens prior to the seventh trumpet
sounding it's not the seventh trumpet
then
the mystery of god is finished it's
finished before the seventh trumpet as
he preached to his servants the prophets
so let's consider these things in full
context the mystery of god is finished
the greek word teleos means finished as
in it is finished what jesus said on the
cross
this can mean fulfilled but it more
likely means everything that wasn't
revealed before
has been revealed
and just a few verses earlier we see
seven things
that weren't revealed the seven thunders
seven statements that john was not
allowed to write down
another clue is that this happens during
the voice of the seventh angel the
seventh angel is speaking something
what might he be speaking well possibly
the seven thunders or part of the seven
thunders that john was not permitted to
write
in fact what else could it be
why would the holy spirit inspire this
very strange interchange about the seven
thunders
if they would never be revealed right
it has to be them
so there is the mystery
the seven thunders are almost assuredly
revealed prior to the seventh trumpet
and likely by the seventh angel or
maybe by all the angels who are blowing
the trumpets all seven of them
so this mystery
isn't the completion of god's plan
rather
it is the final revealing of what has
remained hidden
and that is a big difference
the next two mysteries
involve what is commonly called mystery
babylon
the woman was clothed in purple and
scarlet and adored with gold and
precious stones and pearls having in her
hand a gold cup full of abominations and
of unclean things of her immorality and
on her forehead was a name written
a mystery
this is the first
babylon the great the mother of harlots
and of abominations of the earth
that is the first mystery
and i saw the woman drunk with the blood
of the saints and the blood of the
witnesses of jesus when i saw her i
wondered greatly and the angel said to
me why do you wonder
i will tell you the mystery here's the
second of the woman
and of the beast that carries her
which has the seven heads and the ten
horns
so the first mystery
is that a world government economic
system will form in the last days
and be like babylon in many ways
the second mystery is that the
government will initially ride the beast
empire and control it
these are mysteries because the old
testament doesn't mention this empire at
all that precedes the beast
someone might mention jeremiah 50-51
which discusses prophecies about babylon
don't these relate to the future mystery
babylon
i'd say many do
but it wasn't clear from the old
testament alone that there would be
a future babylon at all
that certainly was a mystery
that
and that babylon will rule over the
beast and the ten kings prior to them
burning the body of babylon with fire
but which babylon
is the symbolic foreshadow of this
mystery babylon
the original babel of nimrod
or babylon of nebuchadnezzar or is it
both
if we look carefully at the passage in
revelation 17
we read that babylon is the mother
of harlots and abominations
this might mean
it is the progenitor
of harlots or it might mean it is the
largest harlot as joel richardson points
out in his book on mystery babylon
certainly
if it means progenitor of
the original babylon the one world
government of nimrod is a much better
match as all world governments
were based on this previous first one
now what future government best matches
this nimrod type government and prideful
arrogance
